Hello Dear Artist!

Welcome to our brand new blog.

Yes, in addition to our social posts and newsletters, you will now be able to get even more goodness, right here in the blog.

This is a way for me to be visible, to share thoughts, stories and insights to better serve you. Hopefully, you’ll find the posts interesting, thought-provoking or even inspiring or at times, amusing. At any rate, I aim for them to be supportive and useful.

In the first post, I want to give you a little bit of insight into the way I think about coaching.

I take a holistic approach because you aren’t an artist in isolation, it is part of who you are.

I believe very strongly that talent alone isn’t what matters.
I believe that there is more to being an artist than ‘doing the work’ (though that doing the work is so very important).

And I believe that artists have more power in shaping their careers – and their lives – than many of them realise.

There are different things at play when artists succeed (whatever success means for them). These three things – which you will likely hear me refer to time and again – are at the heart of how to make big shifts in your career. Get these three elements working and you will be unstoppable!

What are these elements?

Mindset Skillset Toolset

Mindset / Skillset / Toolset model

MINDSET: how you see, perceive and view the world around you. What you believe (whether it is true or not.) and how you respond on the basis of those beliefs.

SKILLSET: the required creative, technical and business skill to support the type and level of art career you wish to have.

TOOLSET: the necessary equipment, tools and systems that enable you to have this career.

These three elements can’t be cherry-picked.

They work together in harmony – a mindset without the other two won’t support you. The other two without the right mindset won’t get you as far as you could either.

All three need to work together and are a great place to start if you want to make changes.

Whether I use these terms in any given post or not, the idea that these three elements need to coexist underpins all my coaching work, and that includes these posts.

Until next time
